Aussie Al-Qaeda Admits Guilt

And, perhaps in a sign of the times, David Hick will serve another nine months.

The sentencing followed a day of proceedings in the first case under a 2006 law that authorized military commissions to try some detainees designated as enemy combatants. Those proceedings included Mr. Hicks’s amplifying on his guilty plea, acknowledging that prosecutors had the evidence to prove that he had been a trainee of Al Qaeda who, armed with an AK-47, was prepared to fight Americans in the Afghanistan conflict of 2001.

During the hearing, the military judge disclosed an extraordinary series of concessions Mr. Hicks had made to his American captors in negotiations for the plea deal, in which he admitted material support to a terrorist organization.

The deal included a statement by Mr. Hicks that he “has never been illegally treated” while a captive, despite claims of beatings he had made in the past. It also included a promise not to pursue suits over the treatment he received while in detention and “not to communicate in any way with the media” for a year.

Not entirely 9-11 related, but it speaks to our "al-CIA-duh" claimants.

After 5 years of torture you would confess to anything.

Confessions don't mean anything without corroborating evidence. How many people do you think have confessed to Jon Benet Ramsey's murder? Obviously Hicks knew they had the goods on him.

The torture angle is just a limp argument from troothers. Please explain the confession of KSM months before he was captured.

Agree with Texas Jack, there was really nothing really special Hicks knew in order to get a forced confession out of him, he was just another enemy fighter. I hope he'll condemn his actions and do something about the rapid rise in extremism and anger among the muslim youth in Australia (preach at mosques about the negatives of it or whatever).

Heffe apparently sees evil in the United States only. All those who hate this country are merely innocent victims.

It does look bad that they held this clown for so long given he appears to have been another terrorist wannabe rather than a genuine player like KSM. I remember when he first came up in the news he was acting like a real psycho in detention, far less disciplined than the hard core islamists.

Critical Thinker, I'd like to think you are right but there is just as good a chance that he will become become a U.S.-bashing hero.

Proof or didn't happen.
